Barbara F Hull

Barbara F. Hull, 73 of Cecil passed away April 30, 2018. She was born Jan. 22, 1945 in Magoffin County Kentucky a daughter of the late Willard & Audrey (Shepherd) Howard.
Preceding her in death were her parents, siblings, Lee Shepherd & Cynthia Howard.

She is survived by her husband, Philbert; children, Melissa (Randy) Montgomery of Salyersville, KY, Randy Stephens of Antwerp & Lindsay (Ryan) Lassiter of Oakwood; step son, Dwain (Heather) Bigger of Hicksville; grandchildren, Drake & Aaliyah; siblings, Ethel (Truman) Handshoe of Hueysville, KY, Martha (Jerry) Feeney of Oakwood, Shirley (Larry) McMichael of Antwerp, Cora Evans of Defiance, Pat (Bill) Sutton of Hicksville, Kathy (Mike) Lowe of Grabill, IN & Sam Shepherd of Paulding; her four legged babies Lilly, Tux, Clancy Lee & Miss Ella.

She loved animals andwas an avid gardener. She worked part time at Stephens & Hull Automotive and had worked at Dana Corp for several years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Antwerp.

Service is Friday, 11 am with visitation one hour prior at the First Baptist Church of Antwerp.  

Visitation is also Thursday, 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Dooley Funeral Home, 202 W. River Street, Antwerp, Ohio.

Barbara will be laid to rest in Rochester Cemetery, Cecil.

All who knew Barbara Hull would agree that she was truly beautiful on the

inside and out. She was loving and compassionate with a heart for the underdog and those

who were less fortunate. A more loving and devoted wife and mother would be hard to

find. A woman of faith, her life exemplified what it means to be the hands and feet of the

Lord she loved. A longtime resident of her community, Barbara will be deeply missed

and fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know and love her.

For the first half of the 1940’s, the eyes of our nation were focused overseas

as countless young men and women were deeply entrenched in WWII. Those who

remained stateside awaited the latest news from the front lines while rationing on

common goods became an everyday reality. Amidst this eventful time was a time of great

anticipation in the lives of Willard and Audrey ( Shepherd ) Howard as they were eagerly

awaiting the birth of their baby as January dawned in Magoffin County, Kentucky in

1945. Their wait was finally over on the 22nd of January when the baby girl they named

Barbara drew her first breath. In many ways, Barbara was a typical young girl of her

generation. Her father worked hard as a farmer while her mother had more than enough

to keep her busy at home. Sadly their family suffered great hardship with the death of

Barbara’s father when he was only 35 years old at his passing. As a student, she attended

John T. Arnett school. While growing up Barbara and her sisters loved music and

dancing. As Barbara became a teenager, she also enjoyed nice clothes and dressing up.

There was never anything of greater significance in Barbara’s life than her

loved ones. She was blessed to be a mother to her precious children, Melissa, Randy, and

Lindsay.

Barbara met her husband Philbert Hull at Dana Weatherhead in Antwerp, OH

where they were both employed. It didn’t take them long to fall in love and with a

desire to spend the rest of their lives together, Barbara and Phil traveled to Clintwood,

VA to get married. They became husband and wife on November 24, 1980, but since it

was two days before Thanksgiving they waited a week to have their reception at the

Antwerp VFW.

Barbara was a devoted and loving wife and mother, and her family brought her

great joy. She always looked forward to traveling back to Kentucky. While there she

enjoyed riding on an ATV looking at the beautiful scenery around her.

Throughout her life Barbara was one to keep busy. She spent some time working

outside of the home including when she worked for Eagle Picher Plastics Company

in Grabill, Indiana. There, she did some modeling for their brochures. Later on, Barbara

worked at Dana Corp. and then worked part-time at Stephens & Hull Automotive.

Within her community, she was a member of the First Babtist Church of Antwerp and was very proud of her decision to be babtized as an adult.

Known for her heart of compassion, Barbara was an animal lover. She treasured the companionship of her cats and also loved her daughters’ dogs. If she gave her daughters gifts, Barbara sent one for their dogs, too. One of her favorite things to keep busy was gardening as she enjoyed tending to both her vegetable and flower gardens.

With unending love for her family and friends, Barbara Hull was a blessing to everyone she met. She was someone who was content in all things, and her zest for life was easy to see. A loving wife and mother, she lived to love and care for others. Compassionate, kind hearted, and generous, Barbara was always looking for ways she could give to those around her. Life will never be the same without her here, but she leaves behind a priceless collection of memories that her loved ones will forever hold near and dear to their hearts.
