ELIZABETH R. "BETTY ROSE" VAIL, 77, of Hamilton, formerly of Antwerp, Ohio, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at Parkview Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Born Dec. 15, 1929, in Monroeville, she was the daughter of Leo and Thresia (Brady) Rosswurm.

She married her husband of 43 years, James E. Vail on Feb. 26, 1949. A homemaker and mother of eight, she was a bowler, card player, jigsaw puzzler and sports fanatic. Her home was always filled with friends, family and fun. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and Antwerp V.F.W. Post 5087.

She is survived by her children, James (Nancy) Vail of Toledo Michael Vail of Morganton, N.C., Kathy (Ken) King of West Unity, Patrick (Dixie) Vail of Antwerp, Susan (Michael) Spirek of Waterloo, Sally (Tom) Gates of Poquoson, Va. Peter (Lynnette) Vail of Antwerp, and Mary (Morgan Smith) Vail of Hamilton; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry (Carol) Rosswurm of Hamilton and Bruce (Holly) Rosswurm of Woodburn; sisters-in-law, Marolyn Rosswurm of Payne, June Smith of Antwerp, Phyllis Forrer of Paulding, and Mary Lou Vail of Rome, Ga.; brothers-in-law, Larry Joe (Jean) Vail of Antwerp and Joseph Berenyi of Saganaw, Mich.; aunt, Theresa Zimmerman of Fort Wayne; and multiple cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two grandchildren; daughter-in-law; and three siblings.

A Celebration of Life service is 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church, Antwerp.

Visitation is from 2 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp, Ohio, with a V.F.W. Auxiliary service at 6:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Burial in Maumee Cemetery, Antwerp.

The family will also receive friends at a memorial luncheon from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Hamilton Fish & Game Club.
