Charles Richard Carr, 86, of Antwerp, passed away at 3:20 pm, Monday, January 14th, 2008 at his residence.
Dick was born in Antwerp on July 16, 1921, the son of the late Thomas and Phoebe (Smith) Carr.
He served in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lt. in WW II.
Dick spent summers traveling to learn more about computers, consequently introducing computers at Indiana Institute of Technology, where he was the chairman of the Math & Computer Science Department. While there he received the honorary title "Faculty Emeritus of Indiana Institute of Technology" as a tribute to his 35 years of dedicated service. Dick was a kind, reserved & dignified gentleman, who enjoyed gardening, designing and carpentry.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Antwerp, where he had been the clerk & treasurer.
On April 14, 1943 he married Marie Slusher, who survives.
Dick will be sadly missed by his wife, Marie; daughter, Christal Gibson of Antwerp; son, Richard Gregory ( Barbara) Carr of Warren, NJ; 3 grandchildren, Jason Gibson of Antwerp and Amanda & Cory Gibson of Orlando, FL.
Dick is preceded in death by his sister, Maxine Farst & brother, Lyle.
You are invited to participate in his service at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp, at 11 am on Saturday, January 19th, with Rev. Ralph Klinker officiating.
You may call Friday, 2-4 & 6-8 pm, and Saturday, 10-11 am.
He will be laid to rest at Maumee Cemetery, Antwerp.
