Don Pierce

DONALD L. PIERCE, age 60, of Antwerp, passed away Sunday, October 1st, 2006 at Paulding County Hospital.

Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on April 6, 1946, he was the son of the late L.D. and Eva M. (Barton) Pierce.

On Jan. 8 1966, Don married Mary Bacon, who survives. Don served his country in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968.

He retired as a scheduling supervisor at General Motors, Defiance, but currently worked at Pond-A-River Golf Course, Woodburn, IN and was the Zoning Inspector for Carryall Township, Antwerp.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Antwerp, where he taught religious education classes (REC) for over 30 years and sang in the church choir; Antwerp American Legion Post 253, VFW Post 5087 and Paulding Fraternal Order of Eagles 2405. He was a foster parent for 8 years; played & sang in the Village Vagabonds and the Country Combinations, called square dances and coached softball and baseball for several years. He also enjoyed camping boating, golf, bowling, playing darts and radio control airplanes.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Mary; daughter, Rachelle (Ray) Durham of Defiance;
sons, Randy (Debbie) of Convoy, Russ (Kim) of Payne, Ryan (Amber) of Antwerp;sisters, Betty Pierce of Sturgis, MI, Bess Clouse of Sturgis, MI, Barbara (Don) Winchester of Oakwood;
brothers, Dan (Melissa) Pierce of Antwerp, Duane Lodden of Sault St. Marie, MI; half sisters, Clarrissa (Dan) Schattsenider of Jackson, Wisc.Cheryl (John) Connelly of Sturgis, MI, Eva (Keith) Shears of Sturgis, MI;
9 grandchildren, and 3 step grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by parents and daughter-in-law, Maria.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Antwerp, at 10 AM on Wednesday, October 4th, with Father Thomas Oedy officiating.

You may call Tuesday, 2-8 PM, at Dooley Funeral Home with an 8 PM Catholic Vigil Service.

He will be laid to rest at Maumee Cemetery, Antwerp.

Memorials are to be used according to the family's wishes.
