Dr. Don K. Snyder, 91, of Payne, entered into the arms of our Lord, Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Parkview Regional Medical Center.
Don was born on July 13, 1933 in Payne, a son of the late Katherine (Evans) & Gerald Snyder, Sr.
Don grew up going to Clear Lake, IN, where he developed a deep love for the outdoors and all the lake had to offer. In his youth, he was passionate about music, playing the saxophone and performing in a band, while also excelling in football and basketball in high school. He graduated from Payne High School in 1951, and married his high school sweetheart, Myrna, in 1955. Don went on to attend Ohio State University and Northwestern Medical School, earning his degree in 1958 before returning to Payne to begin his distinguished medical career. Over the years, he delivered over 4,000 babies and served in various leadership roles, including Health Commissioner, County Coroner, and serving on the Paulding County and Wayne Trace School Boards. Don retired from family practice in 1999, leaving a legacy of compassion, service, and faith. A devoted Christian, Don was active at the Woodburn Missionary Church, teaching Sunday school, serving as an elder, and sharing the gospel with others. He was also a founding member of Christ Community Center "the Rock", in downtown Payne. He was a dedicated family man, and enjoyed hobbies like lapidary stone cutting, stained glass crafting, photography, and watersports, while always maintaining a positive outlook on life. He will be remembered for being a compassionate doctor and a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He will be sadly missed by his children, Mitchell Snyder, Marla (Joe) Harter, & Steve (Connie) Snyder; brother, David Snyder; sisters-in-law, Donna Snyder & Evelyn Snyder; grandchildren, Rachael (Damon Paul) Adams, Noah (Erica) Snyder, Natalie (Troy) Vance, Devon (Breia Eutsler) Snyder; great grandchildren, Kea, Zaira, Bentley, Brooklyn, Jensen, Hendrick, Jonah, & Adilynn; several cousins & many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Myrna; daughter, Suzette; grandson, Nathaniel Harter, & siblings, Lynn Snyder, Gerald Snyder Jr., & Patricia (James) Linder.
Viewing will be Thursday, December 12th from 4-7 PM, at Woodburn Missionary Church, 5108 Bull Rapids Rd, Woodburn, IN 46797.
Service will be Friday, December 13th at 11 AM with viewing one hour prior, at Woodburn Missionary Church, 5108 Bull Rapids Rd, Woodburn, IN 46797.
He will be laid to rest in Lehman Cemetery.
Memorials are to Woodburn Missonary Church or Christ Community Center (the Rock), Payne.
