Doris Heckelmann

Doris E. Heckelmann, 107, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Defiance Inpatient Hospice.  

Doris was born on November 16, 1917 in Zanesville, Indiana, a daughter of the late Grace (Johnson) Jackson & Jesse Tobias. 

Doris grew up on a farm, where she cherished the adventures of her childhood and often shared stories about her upbringing. As a homemaker, she found joy in baking, gardening, and always ensuring her family was well cared for. Doris was a dedicated member of St. James Lutheran Church in Payne, as well as the Eastern Star, and a 70-year member of Fairview Grange. She will be fondly remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, whose warmth and care touched the lives of many.

She will be sadly missed by her children, Karen (James) Laker & Linda (the late Danny) Keppler; grandchildren, Stephanie & Stacy; great grandchildren, Tyler, Brooke, Jordan, & Danielle; & great great grandchildren, Kezlin & Lily. 

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; sisters, Wanda Wannemacher & Rosalie Koenn; & an infant brother. 

Service is Monday, February 17th at 10:30 AM with viewing 9-10:30 AM at St. James Lutheran Church, Payne. 

She will be laid to rest in Lehman Cemetery.
