George F. Rhonehouse, Jr., 76, of Antwerp, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Lutheran Hospital.
George was born in Sandusky on August 13, 1935, a son of the late Ruth (Kreimes) and George F. Rhonehouse, Sr.
He served 7 years in the U.S. Army Reserves and one year of active duty. In 1977, he co-founded Tempered Glass Specialists Antwerp, with his brother Don. George was a member of the Antwerp American Legion Post 253 and the Antwerp United Methodist Church and had been the Chairman of the Board of the Antwerp Exchange Bank. His strong support to his community was recognized when he was named Citizen of the Year and then Gem of the Year in 2010.
On July 20, 1957 George married Joan Zuber. She passed away April 27, 1996.
George will be sadly missed by his children, Jill Ptak & Jeff (Cheryl) both of Antwerp & Julie (Mike) Hicks of West Granby, CT; grandchildren, Brittany, Jennifer Kemerer, Caleb Ptak, Miranda & Ethan Hicks; siblings, Don of the Villages, FL, Larry of South Carolina, Darlene Mabis of Edon & Pam Ferguson of Mt. Vernon.
Viewing is Wednesday, 2 to 8 pm at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp.
His funeral service is at Antwerp United Methodist Church at 10 am on Thursday, December 22nd, with viewing one hour prior.
He will be laid to rest at Maumee Cemetery.
