Harold E. Shaffer

Harold Eugene Shaffer, 68, of Hamilton, Indiana, formerly of Antwerp, Ohio, passed away surrounded by family at home on Monday, July 3, 2023.

Harold was born in Paulding, Ohio on October 27, 1954, son of the late Maxine Grace (Williams) Thrasher and Lloyd Lee Shaffer.

Although he worked for 48 years at General Motors Powertrain in Defiance, Harold would much rather enjoy time with his family at their home on Hamilton Lake. His family always came first, from coaching his children’s baseball and softball teams, to attending all his grandkids’ school and sports activities. Like any smart Ohioan, he was an avid Ohio State Football fan on Saturday’s and on Sunday’s, he rooted for whatever team Payton Manning was leading. Harold will always be remembered for his selfless nature and positive attitude.

Harold will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 49 years, Lori (Vogel); children, Josh (Jenn) Shaffer, Abby (Erik) Atteberry, Ashley (Chris) Childers & Jake (Chelsey) Shaffer; siblings, Donna Jean Aldrich, Sue (Dick) Carnahan, Denny (Susie) Thrasher; sister-in-law, Marcia Shaffer; mother-
in-law, Shirley Vogel; grandchildren, Gavin, Grace, Summer, Autumn, Grier, Ainsley, Adam, Cora, Maisey and another on the way; canine companion, Baxter.

He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Pat Thrasher and brothers, Robert & Roger Shaffer.

Viewing is from 5:00 PM to 6:45 PM on Friday, July 7th at Riverside Christian Church,15413 State Route 49, Antwerp, Ohio 45813. His funeral service will directly follow at 7:00 PM. Casual dress welcomed, per Harold’s request.
