James Grover Pendergrast, Jr., 84, of Antwerp, went to meet his Lord on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at his residence, following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Eupora, MS on October 24, 1926, a son of the late Donnie (Morris) and James Grover Pendergrast, Sr.
On Aug. 19, 1944 he married Doris Williams, who passed away Dec 21, 2009.
James was an elder and member of the Paulding Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II on the U.S.S. Chicago. After serving his country he and Doris moved to Ohio and started Pendergrast Farm Drainage. He retired in the late 1990's. He enjoyed attending church services, gardening, long car rides and eating out, but most of all, his family and friends.
He will be sadly missed by his 3 sons, A. Brooks (Linda), James G. (Julie) & David R. (Elaine) all of Antwerp; 3 daughters, Donna L. (John) Knippen of Delphos, Sheila K. (Greg) Lewis of Woodburn, IN & Shelly J. (Brock) Howell of Cecil; 11 grandchildren, Tad (Tianne), Scott (Kim), Amy (Jeff) Miller, Jenna (Brian) Gress, Jessica (Rusty) Bradford, T.J. (Melany) Knippen, Elizabeth (Adam) Cozad, Seth & Samantha Dailey, Justin & Skylar Howell; 3 step grandchildren, Kevin, Shanna & Connor Howell;6 great grandchildren, Brandon, Jonathon, Megan, Michael, Nicolaus & Roman; 3 step great grandchildren, Joey, Henry & Brooke; sister, Betty Jo Dixon & many nieces & nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jim Sam, Bedford, David, L.E. Archie, Alvin & Cliffton; sisters, Dorothy, Annie Lee, Christine & Thelma and son-in-law Kevin J. Howell.
His funeral service is at Paulding Church of Christ, 345 Klinger Road, Paulding, at 11 am on Wednesday, March 2nd, with viewing one hour prior. Pastor Chris Reno will officiate.
Viewing is also Tuesday, 2-4 & 6-8 pm, at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp.
Burial is in Maumee Cemetery, Antwerp.
