Karl Martin (Tuffy) Powell, 90, of Woodburn, Indiana passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020 at Golden Years Homestead, Fort Wayne.
Karl was born in Allen County, IN on Aug. 17, 1930, a son of the late Cleo (Whitehead) and Herbert G. Powell.
From a young age, Karl was interested in basketball, baseball, softball and bowling. He was always an active person. Especially when it came to helping others. He volunteered at the rescue mission for 15 years and was a part of the Living last Supper at Woodburn Missionary Church, where he worshipped. He was a hard working, honest, man of faith who led his family with his great example.
Born and raised in Mudsock, graduated from Harlan High School in 1949. He and Shirley owned the Red Whistle restaurant in Woodburn for a few years. He never missed a grandkids ball games and loved his family with all his heart. He also thoroughly enjoyed his hobby of oil painting, that he took up after retirement.
Karl worked at Overhead Garage Door Company for 20+ years before starting Powell Garage Door Company in 1992.
Karl will be sadly missed by his wife, Shirley (Metzger) whom he married Jan. 10, 1954; children, Dennis (Jamie), Terry (Wendy), Martin (Judy) & Karla (Lisa); grandchildren, Jarrod, Ben, Alex, Emily, Logan, Evan & Nick and great grandchildren, James, Jackson, Grayson, & Ford.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, John and step mother, Lillian
Karl's service is Thursday, September 10, 10:30 a.m. with viewing at 9:30 a.m. at Woodburn Missionary Church.
Viewing is Wednesday, September 9, 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Woodburn Missionary Church.
Due to state mandate we ask that you wear masks at all times, maintain social distancing, and refrain from contact to keep everyone safe while participating in Karl's viewing and service.
He will be laid to rest at Scipio Cemetery, with military honors.
Memorials are to Fort Wayne Rescue Missions.
