Mary Lee Hodgin, 89, entered into the presence of Jesus on September 22, 2020 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's. Mary Lee was born August 13, 1931 to Joseph M. and Marie N. (Hoffman) Popps in West Liberty, OH, the younger of 2 children. She earned her BA from Fort Wayne Bible College in Sacred Music specializing in organ and voice.
On September 5, 1958 she married Ronald Lee Hodgin from Greentown, IN. Together with her husband, she dedicated her life to missionary service for 25 years in Sierra Leone, West Africa. She enjoyed living among and ministering to the nationals in Sierra Leone demonstrating Christ's love with acts of service. She spent a significant portion of her time writing a Bible curriculum “Religious Knowledge” to be used in the public schools. It is still being used in schools across Sierra Leone today. Mary Lee loved to use her musical talents to minister to others. She sang on “The Missionary Hour” radio, in multiple churches, and in Senior Saints. She will be remembered for her gift of hospitality. No one left her home without being offered ice cream and cookies. In her retirement years, she spent countless hours encouraging women of all ages with the Word of God. Mary Lee always held John 15:16 close to her heart. She believed God chose and appointed her to go and bear fruit that would last. Her focus on God's Word is the fruit that will last forever.
Mary Lee will be sadly missed by her daughter, Linda (Steven) Schrenk; son, Laron Hodgin; 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Nancy (Charles) Burch; and one brother-in-law, Fred Hodgin. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, October 10, 2020 at the Grabill Missionary Church, 13637 State St, Grabill, IN 46741
A private family burial will take place in Randolph County, Indiana.
