Paul Schmidt

Paul James Schmidt (Sept 28, 1927 - Nov 24, 2021) of Payne Ohio has gone to heaven, being a believer in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Paul was a 1946 graduate of Payne High School and a Veteran of the Army in the late 1940's. On September 16, 1950 he married Betty Lucile (Axe) Schmidt (deceased). They were married for 55 years. Paul is preceded in death by his brothers Glen (Donna) Schmidt and William (Linda) Schmidt, two sons Steven James Schmidt and Lynn Joseph (Brenda) Schmidt.

Paul was the father of 11 children. Surviving are Mark Lee (Jo) Schmidt of Altamonte Springs, FL, Kim Allen Schmidt of Payne, David Wayne (Helen) Schmidt of Seymour, IN, Nancy Ruth (Mike) Hicks of Payne, Julie Ann (Jim) Schneider of Convoy, OH, Randal Ray (Kathy) Schmidt of Muncie, IN, Cindy Sue (David) Rahrig of Houston, TX, Heidi Jane (Robert) Simmons of Springport, IN, and Tyler Jon (Kristine) Schmidt of Payne. He leaves 31 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Paul served for a time as the Payne Ohio city Treasurer, and was a business owner, running a clothing shop and selling ice cream. He helped start the policy of playing Christmas Music in Payne during the Christmas season. He also built his own home on Fox Avenue in Payne. Paul worked at Permaglass in Payne, then later worked for Rea Magnet Wire in Fort Wayne, IN where he became the Manager of Research and Development until he retired. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family.

Viewing is Tuesday Nov. 30, 2021 from 4-7 PM at Dooley Funeral Home, 5761 SR 500, Payne, OH.

Service is Wednesday Dec. 1, 2021 at 10:30 AM with viewing one hour prior at the funeral home.

Guests must wear nose and mouth covering masks at all times, maintain social distancing, and refrain from contact to keep everyone safe while participating in his viewing and funeral service.

He will be laid to rest at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Payne, OH.
