Rolland E. Johnson, 93, of Harlan, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Golden Years Homestead, Fort Wayne.
Rolland was born in Harlan, on September 3, 1930, a son of the late Zelma (Kees) & William Johnson.
Rolland Johnson, a proud graduate of Harlan High School, dedicated his life to service and hard work. Following his graduation, he served his country with honor in the Army, being stationed in Germany. After his military service, Rolland embarked on a long and fulfilling career, starting as a substation mechanic and moving up to an operations coordinator, dedicating 45 years to Indiana Michigan Power. His personal life was equally remarkable; on September 29, 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, Rosie, beginning a beautiful journey that would span 70 wonderful years together. Rolland was an active member of his community, involved in numerous clubs and organizations. He was a part of the Model A Restorers Club, Old Fort Model A Club (where he served as president for two years), the Goldwing Motorcycle Group, the Harlan Lions Club (where he served as president for two years), the Harlan Masonic Lodge, and the Scottish Rite for 50 years. Rolland was also proud of being named Harlan Days Honorary Citizen in 2023. He made many friends through these activities and enjoyed traveling with his wife, particularly relishing trips with their motorcycle and Model A groups. One favorite destination was Germany, where he had been stationed during his army service. Rolland was known for his love of working with his hands, whether restoring Model A cars or building his home in Harlan. He was a perfectionist, taking immense pride in his meticulous craftsmanship.
He will be sadly missed by his children, Elaine (Mike) Pesesky, of Mooresville, IN & Dave (KC "Kathy" Connors) Johnson of Sunfish Lake, MN; & grandchildren, Chelsea (Brian), Avery (Alex), Cassidy, Kallan (Kyle), Lars, & Ian.
