Ruth Elizabeth Schilb, 96, passed from her earthly home on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center. Survivors are a son, Walter (Sue) Schilb, and daughter, Mary (Paul) Culler. Ruth leaves 9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Schilb in 1990, and her daughter, Jane Lucille Schilb (Poth) in 1957. She was the youngest daughter of George E. and Rose Clemmer. Deceased siblings include Wilbur Clemmer, George H. Clemmer, Madelyn Jump, Helen Jenkins and Carl Clemmer.
Ruth and Tom lived most of their lives in Antwerp as owners and operators of Schilb Funeral Home, Schilb Furniture Store and Schilb Appliance Store. In Antwerp, Ruth was active in the Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Fin-de-Siecle Club and Band Mothers. She also enjoyed her time at the Auburn Country Club.
Ruth spent 30 retirement years in Sebring Florida where she became an avid golfer. She loved entertaining family and friends in her home there. In January of 2000 Ruth moved to Georgetown Place in Fort Wayne where she lived until 2003 when she went to live with her granddaughter, Karen (Tom) Fenker in Leo, IN. In 2009 she moved to the Manor House in Antwerp. Ruth enjoyed attending Sunday evening services at the Manor House and being back to her ârootsâ in Antwerp where she was near to her family.
Viewing is Monday, 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp.
Services are Tuesday, 11 am, with viewing one hour prior, at Dooley Funeral Home.
She will be laid to rest at Maumee Cemetery.
