Thomas Eugene Craft, 89, of Payne, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 19, 2020.
Thomas was born in Oak Hill, Ohio on April 21, 1931, a son of the late Dovie Ellen (Scarberry) and John Collins Craft. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Dewey, Lowell, Ben, and Ray; and sisters Mildred Fulk, Mabel Howard, Lessie McCain, Nancy Mosier, and Ruby Nern.
Tom proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. He later went on to become a welder and foreman at Fruehauf Trucking for more than 37 years.
He always loved sports and as he got older he enjoyed playing golf, baseball, and bowling. His hobbies were many but some of his favorites included camping, painting, traveling, tinkering in his barn, reading and watching westerns, and always leaving time to read his bible and cheer on his Cleveland Indians.
After retirement, Tom enjoyed spending the winters in Florida with his wife going to spring training baseball games, playing pool at the clubhouse, and visiting with friends and family. His family and friends will always carry memories of him in their hearts and he will be remembered most for his sense of humor, quick wit, and storytelling.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Louise (Hammons) whom he married November 19, 1983; children, Michael (Beverly) Craft, Linda (Gene) Saine, Sally (Jake) Miller, Gene Wirts (Joe Davis), Tim (Jenny) Wirts, and Tom (Polly) Wirts; brother Roger (Karen) Craft; grandchildren,
Kelley, Kylie, Aaron, Ashley, Kayla, Grace, Dyson, and Dylainee; 9 great grandchildren and his four legged friend, Teddy.
Viewing is Monday, 4-7 pm at Dooley Funeral Home, 5761 SR 500, Payne, OH. Due to state mandate we ask that you wear masks at all times,
maintain social distancing, and refrain from contact to keep everyone safe while participating in Tom's viewing.
He will be laid to rest privately in Lehman Cemetery.
