Tom Robinson, age 71, of Fort Wayne, left on one last trip Friday, May 13th, 2005. He died at his home after a prolonged bout with cancer. When he left, his son, Tim, who had returned from New York several months ago to care for him, along with his daughter, Nancy, were there to wish him a safe journey on his trip. During the last several months of his illness, he was often visited by old chums from his high school alma mater, Southside, Class of 1952, and other friends & family, which made his final days more bearable. He was born July 18, 1933 in Fort Wayne, the sone of the late Wendell and Elsie Jean (Keating) Robinson. He was a true Renaissance man, having pursued a number of careers and avocations throughout his life. He worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad, as well as a number of other railroads, after serving in the U.S. Navy. In the late 60's he was sales manager of the Sheraton, which later became the downtown Holiday Inn. He was named #1 salesman of the year for the Kessler Co. He was a member of the Fort Wayne VFW Post 10006; Reading, Michigan American Legion Post 360 and the Moose, Elks and Eagles Lodges in Angola, Indiana. Tom was a gregarious man with an infectious smile who never met a stranger. He found it hard to say no to those who asked him for help. His great love was fishing, spending much time at a lake cottage he built in Coldwater, MI. He is survived by his children, George W., James T. and Nancy L. all of Fort Wayne and Timothy C. of New York City; older sister, Nancy Rogers of Fort Wayne and 5 grandchildren.
