Mrs. Wanda Sheets, 95, of Antwerp, passed away at 6:00 pm, Friday, February 29th, 2008 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Wanda was born in Van Wert, Ohio on January 25, 1913, the daughter of the late Rollie and Goldie (Thomas) Springer.
She was a former, Rockford resident, where she was a member of the Methodist Church, but spent the last three wonderful years at the Country Inn, Paulding. She was the head bookkeeper for Mercer & Rockford Landmark & Farmers Grain Elevator from 1958 to 1967, but retired in 1975 as personnel secretary at Kroger, Fort Wayne and was division distributor for Luzier Cosmetic Company. Wanda was President of Celina Business & Professional Women's Club, OSU Agricultural Extension Service for Van Wert & Mercer counties for 18 years, Eastern Star Worthy Matron of Rockford Chapter #152, 4-H leader and Van Wert & Mercer counties Fair Board member. She also had her own band of twin accordians with Gertude McCain called the Rhythm Dots, sung in the Berne, Indiana Mennonite Choir and enjoyed painting, for which she received honors at the Van Wert Art Show in 1989.
On April 12, 1936, she married Glenn Sherman Sheets, who died June 10, 1995.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Renee & Kevin West of Antwerp; brother and sister-in-law, Meredith & Ernestine Springer of Van Wert; 2 grandchildren, Chad (Mandie) West of Hull, GA & Candace West of Warren Michigan.
You are invited to participate in her funeral service at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp, at 11 am on Thursday, March 6th, with Rev. Mike Schneider oficiating.
You may call Wednesday, 4 to 8 pm & Thursday, 1 hr prior to the service.
She will be laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert.
